About the Dingley Area
Dingley is an Australian town truly of the term ‘small in size, big in character’ regardless of how very cliché such may be. Situated just over 20
km south-east of the main business district on Melbourne, Dingley has a population hovering around the 10,000 mark and a strong heritage dating back to 1856. Originally a farming community, the urbanization of Dingley began during the early stages of the 1960s, when a small shopping centre, a school, kindergarten and other facilities were first established. A little later, Sunday Markets became highly popular in the area and helped rekindle something of a ‘village’ atmosphere from days gone by; so much so that an official name change followed resulting in the title ‘Dingley Village’ as it is often referred to today.
Dingley has a long-standing interest in sporting activities with a particular focus on the nation passion that is cricket. The village boasts a number of excellent cricket clubs within its confines, along with football, baseball, softball and tennis clubs to name but a few. Dingley is also privileged to some of the finest golf facilities to be found anywhere in Australia, with a particular nod going to the Melbourne Golf academy.
One of the most famous landmarks in all of Dingley is the Heatherton-Dingley Uniting Church, also known quite charmingly as ‘The little white church on the corner’ which has been faithfully serving the village for almost 150 years. Other landmarks include the Dingle International Hotel, possibly the finest in the area and providing everything from romantic getaways to corporate functions and everything in-between.
Speaking of corporate matters, Dingley has a nationwide reputation for housing dome of the very best tax agencies, accountants and corporate accountancy firms anywhere in the country. Representing clients for tax and accounting matters not just in Dingley but all across the country, the village’s local accountants continually receive widespread industry acclaim as some of the finest to be found today.
General entertainment-wise, it would be safe to say that there is never a dull moment in Dingley. Alongside an incredibly high standards of shopping, dining, dancing and generally unwinding, the village frequently plays host to international festivals of all varieties, with the Dingley Internation Lobster Festival proving particularly popular for fairly obvious reasons.
While it might be fair to say that Dingley could be easily overlooked on the map, anyone looking to spend time in a wonderful historical village with a charm and character much greater than the sum of its parts, certainly should not overlook Dingley as a wonderful town to visit.
